(AP) — The McComb School District says it's the first in the state to provide mental health counseling to students through a telehealth program with the University of Mississippi Medical Center. It's making a difference for children with problems including depression, eating disorders and attempted suicide, the district's four school nurses told the McComb Enterprise-Journal . DUFFIELD, Va. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate who escaped from a southwest Virginia Jail while receiving hospital treatment has been captured. The Wise County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that Samuel Jackson Penley was arrested by officers in Bessemer City, North Carolina, after receiving a tip. Penley escaped Friday from the Duffield Regional Jail Authority while receiving treatment at Lonesome Pine Hospital. Penley was serving time for charges including resisting arrest. A quick-thinking off-duty San Francisco firefighter may have saved a life Saturday morning when he saw a swimmer struggling in the cold water of the San Francisco Bay. Captain Thomas Johansen was swimming at Aquatic Park in San Francisco around 9:20 a.m. when he swam to the victim and started life-saving efforts in the water, according to the city’s fire department. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities are looking for an inmate who was mistakenly released early. The Metropolitan Detention Center says it released Duwin Perez-Cordova on Sunday and that the 27-year-old was last seen downtown, where he was dropped off. Perez-Cordova had been held at the jail since December on charges of attempting to commit a felony, shooting at or from a car, aggravated battery, car theft, drug trafficking, conspiracy and racketeering. CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Tennessee say a 71-year-old car wash attendant has died less than two weeks after he was attacked. Clarksville police spokesman Jim Knoll says in a news release the victim died Saturday night. The statement says the man had been hospitalized since the May 30 assault in Clarksville. OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — The director of the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society has resigned after less than a year. The Oxford Eagle reports that Angela Avery did not deny resigning but did not comment further.
