LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan drivers will have to allow at least 3 feet of clearance or a "safe distance" while passing a bicyclist on the road under bills signed into law by Gov. Rick Snyder. Snyder signed the legislation Friday. The laws take effect in 90 days. DENVER (AP) — A former state employee was sentenced to 12 years in prison for taking videos and pictures up the skirts of his co-workers and other women. KMGH-TV reports 43-year-old Thanh Tan Ta was sentenced Friday after being convicted in April of 17 counts including sexual assault, stalking and invasion of privacy for sexual gratification. HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The state Department of Children and Families is investigation the death of a pregnant 16-year-old girl at the state's psychiatric hospital for children in Middletown. The Hartford Courant reports the teen died late Thursday in an apparent suicide. The death occurred in South Campus unit at the Albert J. Solnit Children's Center, the former Riverview Hospital. EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — A married couple out for an evening walk were struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Eagan. Authorities say a 36-year-old man was arrested early Friday. The crash happened Thursday night, near a strip mall. Authorities arrived to find the 74-year-old man and 57-year-old woman in the parking lot. Both were pronounced dead at a hospital. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The former CEO of a company that operates dozens of Indiana nursing homes has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison for his role in kickback schemes involving nearly $20 million. A federal judge ordered the prison term on Friday for James Burkhart, who pleaded guilty to charges that included conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering Burkhart was the CEO of American Senior Communities until he was fired soon after federal agents raided his Carmel home in 2015. ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — A suburban St. Louis man is accused of using a cellphone attached to his shoe to shoot video under the skirts of women at stores in a mall. KTVI-TV reports that 33-year-old Charles Shoults II of St. Peters, Missouri, is charged with five felony counts of invasion of privacy.
