Off-duty SF firefighter rescues struggling swimmer in Aquatic Park
A quick-thinking off-duty San Francisco firefighter may have saved a life Saturday morning when he saw a swimmer struggling in the cold water of the San Francisco Bay.
Captain Thomas Johansen was swimming at Aquatic Park in San Francisco around 9:20 a.m. when he swam to the victim and started life-saving efforts in the water, according to the city’s fire department.
Johansen and members of the police department’s Marine Unit quickly brought the swimmer ashore, where paramedics were waiting, authorities said.
The victim, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital after regaining a pulse.
