Inmate escaped from Virginia captured in North Carolina
DUFFIELD, Va. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate who escaped from a southwest Virginia Jail while receiving hospital treatment has been captured.
The Wise County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that Samuel Jackson Penley was arrested by officers in Bessemer City, North Carolina, after receiving a tip.
Penley escaped Friday from the Duffield Regional Jail Authority while receiving treatment at Lonesome Pine Hospital. Penley was serving time for charges including resisting arrest.
The sheriff's office had advised residents to lock their doors while Penley was on the loose.
At the time of his arrest, Penley was in possession of a stolen Dodge Caravan minivan.
The sheriff's office says Penley will be extradited back to Virginia.
