Pappas to be ceremonial sworn in at Manchester high school
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — U.S. Rep.-elect Chris Pappas will be sworn into office twice — once in Washington, D.C., and then again at a high school in Manchester where he graduated.
Pappas, a Democrat who becomes the state's first openly gay member of Congress, grew up in Manchester and graduated from Central High School. The ceremonial event on Jan. 5 follows his official swearing-in in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 3.
Pappas has promised to work across the aisle on issues ranging from opioid addiction to affordable college education. Pappas also says he will fight to prevent cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
Pappas defeated Republican Eddie Edwards.
