NH town says someone cashed checks to the tune of $25,000
NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is investigating a case in which someone fraudulently cashed checks from a New Hampshire town worth tens of thousands of dollars.
North Hampton officials say they first learned of the scam in the fall when a bank teller alerted them that someone was attempting to cash a check hundreds of miles away.
Town Administrator Bryan Kaenrath tells WMUR-TV that the check was for a few thousand dollars, but it wasn't the only one. Further investigation revealed 10 checks were cashed to the tune of about $25,000.
The bank has since paid back the money.
