New York communities get $4 million for snowmobile trails
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — More than $4 million has been awarded for snowmobile trail maintenance and grooming in New York.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the funding Friday and designated Jan. 25-27 as a free snowmobiling weekend for out-of-state and Canadian residents.
The Democratic governor says the state is providing $4.2 million in grants for snowmobile trail maintenance. The grants support more than 10,000 miles of designated snowmobile trails. The money comes from snowmobile registration fees collected by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
County and municipal governments distribute the grants to about 230 snowmobile clubs that groom and maintain trails.
