Police arrest man accused of shooting Georgia officer
PERRY, Ga. (AP) — A man accused of shooting a Centerville, Georgia police officer is now in custody.
According to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge J.T. Ricketson, 45-year-old Perry Baggett, of Centerville, was arrested early Saturday.
Baggett is accused of shooting Cpl. Jeremy Mashuga in the abdomen as he responded to a domestic dispute Friday at a home just south of Macon in Houston County. Lt. Brian Blanton with the Houston County Sheriff's Department says Mashuga underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.
Blanton says Baggett barricaded himself inside a home for hours after firing multiple rounds at officers before authorities took him into custody.
