Former smuggler caught piloting plane after losing license
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Officials say a convicted drug smuggler who landed late at night at an airport in Vermont has been charged with flying without a license.
Federal drug agents were watching earlier this month when 48-year-old Angelo Efthimiatos, of Sudbury, landed at the closed Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional Airport.
The Rutland Herald reports that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force found no drugs or large amounts of currency in the small, single engine plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration says Efthimiatos' license was permanently revoked in July 2014 following two drug convictions in Iowa that involved him using a small aircraft to transport drugs between California and the East Coast.
