Man charged with attempted murder after shootout with deputy
PRINCETON, N.C. (AP) — Investigators say a man in North Carolina has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after a shootout with a deputy.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says 38-year-old Lemont Turrentine was one of four suspects who ran from a deputy checking on a burglary call early Saturday in Princeton.
Authorities say a deputy found Turrentine hiding behind a church and he fired several times at the patrol car. The officer fired back, but no one was struck.
Deputies told media outlets that Turrentine dropped the gun and ran, but was arrested a short time later.
Authorities say the other three suspects have not been captured.
Turrentine is being held on $1 million bond. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
