Medical students hold 'die-in' to protest police shootings
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A group of University of Massachusetts Medical School students have taken part in a nationwide student "die-in" in their medical school's lobby.
The Worcester Telegram reports the school's chapter of White Coats for Black Lives took part in the UMass demonstration in hopes of addressing police violence committed against African-Americans. Thirty medical students lay down donning lab coats in the lobby while chapter officer Imani Williams read from a petition calling on elected officials to take steps toward alleviating racism. Demands included decreasing over-policing of communities of color.
The group was recently started to address systemic racism in the health care field.
