4th suspicious fire in 5 weeks at Sparks warehouse
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The Sparks City Council is putting some heat on the owner of a warehouse that has been the scene of four suspicious fires in just over the past five weeks.
Like the previous three incidents, no one was hurt when the latest blaze broke out this week at the warehouse on Dermody Way east of the Nugget hotel-casino between Interstate 80 and the Truckee River.
But Sparks Fire Chief Chris Maples told KOLO-TV that responding to the fires with four engines and a truck company ties up his department's valuable resources.
Maples says the warehouse has been abandoned for two years and is a frequent target of vandalism and dumping.
