Pope Francis has ordered an apostolic visitation of the archdiocese of Cologne, which has been rocked by a damning report on child sex abuse, the diocese said Friday.  The Pope has appointed two "apostolic visitors" charged with establishing a "comprehensive picture of the complex pastoral situation in the archdiocese", it said in a statement. Anadolu Efes became the first name in this season’s EuroLeague championship game on Sunday after beating title holders CSKA Moscow 86-89 on Friday. The Maltese Olympic Committee have announced that indoor pistol shooter Eleanor Bezzina is the first Maltese athlete to have her participation at the forthcoming XXXII Games of the Olympiad in Tokyo, officially confirmed. The chairperson of the European Parliament’s budgetary control committee has denied that Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba was treated unfairly during a committee hearing on Wednesday. The Environment and Resources Authority rewarded Fortina's "abusive behaviour" to start works on their catamaran pontoon in Balluta last Saturday by secretively changing the permit conditions, effectively allowing it to carry out works during the swimming season, Graffitti said on Friday. Transport Minister Ian Borg said he does not plan to take action against his advisor Jesmond Zammit, who was caught trapping out-of-season by the police.  A spokesperson for CABS told Times of Malta that members of the committee had observed a person trapping in a field in the vicinity of Għar Lapsi, where nets had been set out and a number of live decoy finches were on site.  Upon their arrival, the police had apprehended a man who was filmed handling nets and live finches, who later transpired to be Zammit. The last standing tree in Spinola Road has changed from being a full evergreen eucalyptus tree, to a wilted, brown specimen encircled by concrete slabs.  Back in August, St. Julian’s residents came together to save the tree from being chopped down to make way for an extension to a luxury business and residential development.  Nine months on, the 60-year-old eucalyptus tree remains standing, but in a severely deteriorated condition and surrounded by construction.    Aside from being the last tree in the road... PwC Malta has been appointed competent person at law to oversee the affairs of Pilatus Bank following the resignation of Robert Ancilleri, the Malta Financial Services Authority said on Friday. Air Malta will be operating flights to Berlin and Dusseldorf this summer but will not be flying to Moscow and Tel Aviv, the airline has confirmed.  According to an airline spokesperson, following "strong booking demand" coming from the German market, Air Malta will be adding twice weekly direct services to Berlin and Dusseldorf. A man accused of murder admitted with a friend he had been commissioned to kill a man in Gozo and had been given a car and a shotgun and promised €5,000 to eliminate his target, a court heard on Friday.  Aleksandr Stojanovic, a Serb who lives in Safi, called his flatmate in a panic, telling him he was in “serious trouble”, while alerting him to a news report about the murder. Rightly so, Malta, together with other countries, has resisted the notion of tax harmonisation across the whole of the EU for two main reasons.
