‘Faulty’ firearm lands suspect arms dealer behind bars

A man, arrested on Tuesday when police came across an unlicensed and loaded pistol in his car boot, was denied bail on Wednesday after being deemed untrustworthy, even in view of his criminal record.  Aaron Cassar, a 41-year-old Birżebbuġa resident, was targeted by members of the Major Crimes Unit at his hometown on Tuesday afternoon, following an anonymous tip-off about a suspected arms deal. Tourism incentives need ‘clear messages’ to work - WTO secretary

Financial incentives to lure tourists to Malta should be coupled with “clear messages and guidelines” if they are to work, according to the World Tourism Organisation general secretary. Judge rules no case to answer in Hillsborough disaster trial

Betting on Destiny: probe launched into Malta's Eurovision spending

PN pledges €50m refund to cover over-billing of electricity consumption

Seven new COVID-19 cases, one death reported

Seven new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday, data from the Health Ministry indicated.  In their daily bulletin, the health authorities also announced that a 60-year-old man diagnosed with the virus had passed away at Mater Dei Hospital. It was the second virus-related death in as many days, after a gap of several weeks. New playground area inaugurated in Żejtun

A public area in Żejtun has been embellished with a newly installed playground, improved garden and fencing. The regeneration of Mikiel Anton Vassalli square, which cost around €120,000, was led by the town’s local council with €25,000 in co-financing from SportMalta. Trafficker caught with cocaine strapped to his legs gets 12 years jail

A drug trafficker who was found with 1.5 kilos of cocaine in packets strapped to his legs at the airport two years ago has been jailed for 12-and-a-half years. Brazilian-national Adalberto Alves Da Silva, 41, had set off from Sao Paolo on board an Emirates flight via Dubai and Larnaca, finally landing in Malta at 2:30pm on January 20, 2019. Suspected 'arms dealer' arrested

A man is being questioned for suspected arms dealing following his arrest on Tuesday. The police said the 41-year-old was arrested in his car in Birzebbuga after a tip-off. A pistol loaded with two bullets was found inside his bag. The man is expected to be taken to court later on Wednesday.
