People over 30 will be able to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine from Tuesday, Health Minister Chris Fearne has announced, as healthcare professionals continue to speed through the roll-out of the jab.  Speaking during Workers' Day festivities, the minister said that those who are over 30 will be able to register online or via SMS, a process introduced some weeks ago when those over 50s started being offered the jab.  The announcement for the over 30s comes just over a week after those in their 40s became eligible for the vaccine. A small pod of dolphins was spotted in Marsamxett Harbour, close to the shore of Manoel Island, on Saturday evening.  While dolphins are a common presence in Maltese waters, it is rarer for them to be seen swimming so close to shore, as at least three were in this footage sent to Times of Malta. Belgian police fired water cannon and tear gas as they moved in Saturday to clear a crowd of several hundred gathered in a park to protest anti-virus lockdown rules.  The defiant, mainly young crowd had assembled for the so-called "Boum 2" protest, organised online, as a follow up to an action that was broken up last month. A tax official suspended for issuing irregular documents to a football club had been caught doing the exact same thing last year.  Times of Malta reported two weeks ago that a tax official has been suspended and an internal probe launched after the authorities learnt he had issued Birkirkara FC with a tax arrears repayment plan that was not in conformity with the rules. A Maltese man who died from COVID-19 in India has been cremated in Delhi, just a day after he died as he was about to be medically evacuated to Malta. Ivan Barbara, 47, died on Friday after developing complications as he was being transferred to the air ambulance, which was set to fly him back to Malta. The plan was to treat the patient in isolation at Mater Dei Hospital's ICU. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has fallen to levels last seen in early August last year, Health Minister Chris Fearne revealed on Saturday morning. Fearne said that Malta now has 270 active virus cases, highlighting the nine-month low figure. The last time Malta had fewer active virus cases was on August 6, 2020 when 267 active virus cases were recorded. All four lanes of traffic running through the Kirkop tunnels will reopen to vehicles come Monday morning, as Infrastructure Malta enters the final phase of a roadworks project in the area. Motorists commuting through the area have complained about the pace of works and say lane closures due to the works have caused gridlock during peak traffic hours. Their concerns were partly allayed by Infrastructure Malta on Saturday, with the roads agency saying that it would be completing most works involving the Kirkop tunnel this weekend. Police who arrested a man on suspicion of drug trafficking found cocaine, heroin, cannabis and methadone at his house in Marsa, they said on Saturday.The suspected drug trafficker is a 35-year-old man who police arrested late on Thursday following a raid of a property in Spencer Hill, Marsa. That raid resulted in the discovery of drugs ready to be trafficked and was followed up by a search of the man’s Marsa home.
