PHOENIX (AP) — Record-setting rainfall from remnants of Tropical Storm Sergio closed the Arizona State Fair on Saturday and slowed traffic on a freeway and local streets across metro Phoenix. Fair officials said on Twitter that the closure Saturday afternoon for the rest of the day because of weather was the first "in recent memory" and they cheerfully noted that sunny skies are forecast for Sunday. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Five puppies that were among 200 rescued from a meat farm in South Korea are looking for new homes in Virginia. The Daily Progress reports the pups arrived in Charlottesville on Monday. They have been quarantined since at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, receiving medical treatment and being spayed and neutered. RENO, Nev. (AP) — Jordan Stiteler joined thousands of other Nevada residents to take part in a community-wide DNA testing program known as the Healthy Nevada Project to verify her Swedish ancestry. But the Reno Gazette-Journal reports the 29-year-old Reno resident instead found out how important genetic testing can be in catching potentially big health problems early. Stiteler was one of 83 study participants who had an inherited genetic disorder that made them more prone to suffering heart attacks at a younger age.

KABUL — A motorcycle rigged with explosives detonated at an election rally in northeastern Afghanistan on Saturday, killing at least 14 people including civilians and security forces, officials said.
