FESTUS, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect in an eastern Missouri burglary called a hospital to report an active shooter to create a diversion as he fled from police. KSDK-TV reports that police responded to Mercy Hospital in Crystal City and determined there was no shooter. Police later found the suspect in the Festus burglary in Red Bud, Illinois, where he admitted making the false active shooter call. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A state legislator wants to change how wind energy tax revenue is distributed in North Dakota. Rep. Mike Brandenburg says a portion of the money should be directed to the state rather than sending it all to local counties. MILAN (AP) — The latest developments following the deadly collapse of a highway bridge in Italy (all times local): 1:35 p.m. An Italian truck driver who survived the plunge from the collapsed Genoa highway bridge with a dislocated shoulder and bruised hip says he still can't look at the bridge he used to cross every day. Luciano Goccia returned to the site of the rubble Thursday to retrieve possessions from the back of his wrecked truck. HAMBURG, N.Y. (AP) — Police in western New York say a man has died while kite surfing on Lake Erie. Hamburg police say they responded to a town beach on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a kite surfer in distress. Police and lifeguards tried to rescue the man but wind took hold of his sail, pushing him out further into the water. A town water rescue unit responded and recovered the man's body. It wasn't clear whether the man had suffered a medical emergency before the rescue efforts. His name was not immediately released.

SOMERVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A sheriff's department in Alabama is investigating a report of hazing at a high school earlier this year. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office is working with the county school system on an incident involving students at Brewer High School in February. Schools Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. told WHNT in Huntsville the incident involved the junior varsity baseball team. BOSTON (AP) — A member of the violent MS-13 gang from New York has been convicted of shooting a rival as well as an innocent bystander at a Boston subway station in 2016. Prosecutors say 23-year-old Rogelio Alvarado was found guilty by a jury Wednesday of several charges including two counts of assault and battery by discharging a firearm. Authorities say the Huntington, New York, man was on a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train on the afternoon of Jan. 19, 2016 when he had a gang-related conflict with another passenger. MILWAUKEE (AP) — A bus driver took action when she saw a little girl standing in the street in a T-shirt and underwear. Diana Serrano was beginning her route for the Milwaukee County Transit System on Aug. 4 when a motorist in front of the bus stopped to help the girl and carried her to the side of the road. But they say a motive for the shooting remains under investigation. The 51-year-old woman was found shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday by police who were responding to reports of shots fired. CHICAGO (AP) — A new lawsuit alleges Chicago police officers pointed guns at a family, including at 9- and 5-year-old children, after bursting into the wrong apartment with a search warrant last year. The Chicago Tribune reports the suit was filed Wednesday in federal court for the father, Gilbert Mendez. It alleges false arrest and seeks an unspecified amount of damages.
