DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa's unemployment rate dropped slightly to 2.7 percent in May, giving the state the nation's third-lowest rate. Iowa Workforce Development reported Friday that the unemployment rate was down from 2.8 percent in April as the number of unemployed Iowans fell from about 47,000 to 46,000. Iowa's rate was behind only Hawaii's 2 percent rate and the 2.6 percent rate in North Dakota. New Hampshire also had a 2.7 percent rate in May. The national unemployment rate in May was 3.8 percent.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams is vetoing plans for an 8,800-home suburban development following an outcry by neighboring residents. McAdams vetoed plans for the Olympia Hills project Friday after residents blasted the proposal during a town hall the previous evening. Residents said the proposal was sprung on them. They said the development's relative high density would lead to heavy traffic and strain local resources. The Salt Lake County Council approved zoning changes for the development last week. EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene police say a body was found in heavy brush hours after a rollover crash in which the suspected drunken driver said he was not carrying any passengers. The June 9 fire destroyed exhibits, including one of Kurt Cobain. Nirvana frontman grew up in Aberdeen about 100 miles from Seattle. Water also damaged the museum's historic records that were stored in the basement. Apple has signed a multi-year content partnership deal with Oprah Winfrey, the company announced on Friday.
