Kansas City deems measles outbreaks officially over

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kansas City's two measles outbreaks are over, but officials are just starting to calculate the costs of containing them. The Kansas City Star reports that the city deemed the outbreaks officially over as of Monday, when there had been no new cases in 42 days, or two incubation periods. The city had been combating the highly contagious virus since March. More than $170,000 in taxpayer resources went to holding the outbreaks to 35 total cases, 22 of which were in Kansas. Appeals court upholds $28.1M verdict in Beatrice 6 case

(AP) — A federal appeals court has upheld a $28.1 million judgment against Gage County and two law enforcement officials for a Nebraska case involving six people who were wrongfully convicted of murder. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declined to overturn the jury's 2016 verdict in a ruling issued Monday. EPA: Dredging begins at Indiana Harbor Ship Canal

(AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency says dredging of a ship canal in northwest Indiana has begun as environmental regulators continue to study off-site disposal options for highly contaminated sediments. The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports that Army Corps of Engineers contractors began dredging work at the Indiana Harbor Ship Canal in East Chicago on Monday. Reward offered for info on who cut trees holding eagle nests

KENAI, Alaska (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information on the destruction of three trees that were home to nesting bald eagles on the Kenai Peninsula. Kenai radio station KSRM reports the trees were cut this spring around Anchor Point. An aerial survey spotted the felled trees. New exhibit gets Rhode Island in on the Boston Tea Party

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A new exhibit that highlights Rhode Island's role in helping spark the American Revolution has opened at the state archives. The archives in Providence have created an exhibit about how Rhode Island colonists burned a British ship, the HMS Gaspee, in June 1772. Rhode Islanders feel slighted because they don't get credit for their role in the Revolution. They feel Bostonians get all the glory for the Boston Tea Party. Portland's aerial tram closing for maintenance

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland's aerial tram will be closed for maintenance later this summer. The Oregonian/Oregonian reports the popular tourist attraction will be shut down from June 23 through July 30. The tram opened in 2006. Western Illinois University sees enrollment decline

Man admits child abuse in accidental shooting at day care
