Alex Wolff Tells Us How Gnarly ‘Hereditary’ Scene Drew Real Blood (Exclusive Video)

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Ari Aster’s “Hereditary” will leave you shattered — in a similar way the film’s star Alex Wolff’s body was battered after a specific scene in the horror film. The scene in question is the one in which Wolff’s character Peter slams his face into a desk in the middle of a high school class. “I said to Ari when that scene was coming up, ‘I will do it on a real desk, just tell me.’ And he said, ‘I love you and thank you but that is definitely not allowed, definitely an illegal thing to do so we’re... «SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Cross said UW officials recognize the uncertainty and realize students may be delaying applications. He says all the... Читать дальше...

Scientists predict average dead zone, but 3x long-term goal

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Federal scientists are predicting an average dead zone this summer in the Gulf of Mexico. But they note that this would still be three times greater than the long-term goal for reducing the size of the area where there's too little oxygen to support marine life. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts that this year's will cover about 5,780 square miles (15,000 square kilometers), or about the size of Connecticut. The 33-year average is about 5,460 square miles (14,100 square kilometers). Читать дальше...

AP FACT CHECK: Trump's tale of Texas hurricane gawkers

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — President Donald Trump is mischaracterizing the thousands of water rescues in Texas last year during Hurricane Harvey by saying "people went out in their boats to watch" the deadly Category 4 storm. A look at his comment Wednesday during a briefing with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to discuss preparations for the new hurricane season: TRUMP: "I have to tell you, the Coast Guard saved 16,000 people. ... OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Supreme Court says lawmakers have successfully finalized a long-running case on state funding of basic education. Cameos by the real robbers give ‘American Animals’ crime film a lift

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

“American Animals” is a heist movie about four young men in Kentucky who put together and execute a plan to steal precious rare books. These men are the most inept thieves in the history of movies, maybe in the history of the world, and yet they’re not stupid. What they are, instead, are amateurs who stumble into crime for reasons that even they don’t completely understand. Written and directed by Bart Layton, “American Animals” dramatizes a true story, set in 2003 and 2004, but it sprinkles in a documentary element... Читать дальше...

Relativity Media founder Ryan Kavanaugh sued his former production president Adam Fields for $50 million on Thursday, claiming that Fields illegally leaked documents from a private arbitration that mistakenly paints Kavanaugh as a fraud. The breach of contract suit says that Fields gave only selective parts of documents to a U.S. bankruptcy court this week in a larger effort to mislead the entertainment industry and public that Kavanaugh forged evidence of sexual harassment against Fields and used it as an excuse to fire him.

New ‘Ocean’s’ movie starring Sandra Bullock is a nice-looking knockoff

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

“Ocean’s 8” is a big, shiny cubic zirconia of a movie. It’s designed to look and feel exactly like the best moments of the previous “Ocean’s” installments, and indeed the new film can be lots of fun — with its well-cast female leads, patriarchy-breaking vibe and creative central heist. But there is something slightly off, partly in the pacing and also in the concept. Plot decisions, made in the name of style, greatly strain believability. While individual scenes are enjoyable...
