Prosecutors in Poland probe sewage dump into Baltic bay

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Prosecutors on Poland's Baltic coast have opened a probe into potential environmental damages in the Bay of Gdansk after the sewage system of that Baltic Sea city malfunctioned. The spokeswoman for Gdansk province prosecutors, Grazyna Wawryniuk, said Friday that prosecutors were looking into the cause of the accident and into whether it had endangered the environment or residents. Sewage project fights bay pollution — and sea-level rise?

(AP) — Coastal Virginia began pumping treated sewage deep into the ground this week, launching a widely watched pilot project that will reduce Chesapeake Bay pollution and likely help fortify the land against rising seas. Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza on Friday ordered stations in the Little Rock area to stop running the Judicial Crisis Network's ads targeting Justice Courtney Goodson. UI alumna says Chief Illiniwek mascot can be reinvented

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A University of Illinois alumna says officials should form closer ties with the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma and reinvent the university's former mascot. Colleen McCoy graduated from the university in 1988. Trump administration to deny funds to clinics that refer for abortion

Cuban media: Boeing 737 crashes with 104 passengers aboard

HAVANA (AP) — Cuban media say a Boeing 737 operated by state airline Cubana has crashed on takeoff from Jose Marti International Airport in Havana with 104 passengers on board. There was no immediate word on casualties. State television and websites said the plane was headed to the eastern city of Holguin and crashed between the airport in southern Havana and the nearby town of Santiago de las Vegas. The plane was rented by Cubana, which has taken many of its aging planes out of service in recent months due to mechanical problems.

Columbia man gets life in northeast Missouri man's death

MADISON, Mo. (AP) — A Columbia man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for a shooting death of a northeast Missouri man. The Moberly Monitor Index reports 36-year-old Jason Lee Lage was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison plus 50 years in the killing of 32-year-old Zachary Dawson. Dead whale found in Oakland estuary near Jack London Square
