SAUSALITO, Calif. (AP) — Another dead gray whale washed ashore on Bolinas Beach in Marin County, the fifth dead whale found in the San Francisco Bay Area since March and the third since Friday. The Marine Mammal Center said the whale was reported Tuesday and a necropsy was planned. Scientists said human-caused injuries killed two whales found last week in the Bay area. The Marine Mammal Center said a ship hit a 45-long fin whale that was found May 18 near Oakland. A necropsy found the juvenile female had broken bones and massive hemorrhaging.

JAMESTOWN, Va. (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that a power company can continue constructing controversial power line towers that will cross the James River near historic Jamestown Island in Virginia. In an opinion published Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth ruled against conservation groups who sued to stop the project. They claimed the towers will harm the view near the site of Britain's first permanent settlement in North America. (AP) — There are close to 4,900 untested rape kits in Missouri, and that number likely is low because some agencies couldn't say exactly how many kits they have, according to a review by the state attorney general's office. Attorney General Josh Hawley, who launched an audit of the state's rape kit backlog in November 2017, announced the findings Thursday in what he said was the first such review. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Disability advocates have filed a lawsuit alleging California isn't doing enough to get in-home nursing care for children with severe disabilities. The suit filed Thursday says the state is obligated to find nurses for low-income children on Medi-Cal but does little more than send lists of names. It says children are at risk of being injured or institutionalized because the Department of Health Care Services fails to ensure they get the nursing care ordered by their doctors and approved by the agency.
