OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha double-homicide trial has stalled after the judge said the defendant and two other men attempted to contact a juror. A 19-year-old jury member in the trial of Marcus Short, 28, asked other jurors Monday if they received a strange Facebook friend request with a photo of the defendant. Short, Adrian Ixta, and Davaughn Perkins are accused of jury tampering, said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine. Ixta is Short's current cellmate and Perkins is a friend. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's CIA nominee said Wednesday at her confirmation hearing that she doesn't believe torture works as an interrogation technique and that her "strong moral compass" would prevent her from carrying out any presidential order she found objectionable. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Sunrun Inc. (RUN) on Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $28 million. The San Francisco-based company said it had net income of 25 cents per share. The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 24 cents per share. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ FibroGen Inc. (FGEN) on Wednesday reported a loss of $41.4 million in its first quarter. The San Francisco-based company said it had a loss of 50 cents per share. The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 51 cents per share. Former Associated Press photographer Russell McPhedran, whose balcony photo of a hooded terrorist at the 1972 Munich Olympics became one of the iconic images of the 20th century, has died after a heart-related illness. He was 82. McPhedran, who was inducted into the Australian Media Hall of Fame last November, worked at the Sydney bureau of the Associated Press from 1985 until his retirement in 2003. BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts man who raped and trafficked a teen relative has been sentenced to life in prison during a Massachusetts Superior Court jury trial. The district attorney calls this "one of the most disturbing cases," he's encountered in his career. A reputable comic book author and SF writing instructor facing child pornography charges switched his plea to guilty last month even after he solicited several letters of support from former colleagues. Gerard Jones, 60, wrote stories for Marvel and DC Comics — most notably the Green Lantern — produced screenplays for Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox and wrote non-fiction books.
