Firefighters lifted evacuation orders in Marin County after getting the upper hand Tuesday on the Irving Fire burning in Samuel P. Taylor State Park. The blaze was holding at 115 acres and was 35 percent contained, according to the Marin County Fire Department. The fire broke out in steep terrain Monday night, triggering evacuations nearby. The Panthers will be without three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen and second-team All-Pro Bowl right tackle Daryl Williams for the foreseeable future. (AP) — A southwestern Montana sheriff has been suspended for three months with pay after he was charged with official misconduct, perjury and evidence tampering in a case that led to a meth trafficking conviction. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A lawsuit was settled by a Peruvian man who alleged police officers in a city north of Anchorage wrongfully detained him over his immigration status after he tried to break up a bar fight, the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska announced Tuesday. CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Police in Florida say an alligator bit a man who went into a lake to retrieve a flying disc. News outlets report the around 11-foot (3.3-meter) alligator bit 35-year-old Richard Peel on Monday. Clearwater police say the man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (AP) — Authorities say a dead hiker whose body was recovered this week was likely killed by a cougar, marking the first fatal attack by a wild cougar in Oregon and the second in the Pacific Northwest this year. Search and rescue teams found the body of Diana Bober, 55, on Monday off a trail in the Mount Hood National Forest in Welches, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of Portland. NFL Network reported Tuesday afternoon the Raiders were nearing an agreement to re-sign Bryant on a one-year deal. The Raiders waived Bryant, 26, as part of their 53-man roster cut-downs on Sept. 1.
