Delaware man, 62, accused of illegal sex acts with teen

SMYRNA, Del. (AP) — A Delaware man is facing rape charges for what authorities say were illegal sex acts involving a 17-year-old. Local media reported Sunday that patrol officers were checking on a vehicle parked off a roadway in Smyrna on Thursday when they found 62-year-old Robert Halama of Dover in the car with the teen. Hunt begins for Christmas tree for Governor's Mansion

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri officials are on the hunt for the Christmas tree that will grace the lawn of the Governor's Mansion. The Jefferson City News-Tribune reports that the Missouri Department of Conservation is asking landowners, homeowners, businesses and communities that may have possible candidate trees to contact the department. Construction begins on Emporia State's president's home

4 arrested as homeless removed from university property

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — University of Arkansas police say four people were arrested for remaining on property that the university is trying to clear out homeless camps. The four were arrested Thursday, the deadline the campers were given on Aug. 9 to leave the property. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the four face charges ranging from public intoxication and drug possession to criminal trespassing. The 55-acres of undeveloped land is about one mile (1.6 kilometers) from the UA campus and is for sale.

Missouri gets grace period for Real ID license compliance

Teen on bicycle dies after being hit by 2 cars

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) — A teen riding his bicycle has died after being hit by a two cars, including one that also hit a passenger in the first car who had gotten out to help the boy. Suffolk County police say the 14-year-old boy was on his bike in Ronkonkoma, New York, around 8 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a Jeep driving southbound on Lakeland Avenue near Union Parkway. Ames downtown vegetable landscaping turns out food for needy

AMES, Iowa (AP) — The city of Ames' plantings in beds and containers not only keep downtown looking lush, they also feed the hungry. For a second year, Ames Main Street has substituted edible landscaping — including potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplant, cucumbers and okra — for the flowers it used to plant. On Friday, volunteers harvested more than 200 pounds of sweet potatoes from 25 planters along the street. 2 dead after twin engine plane crashes in Florida

LAKE WORTH, Florida (AP) — Florida authorities say that two people are dead following the crash of a twin engine plane. The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said the accident occurred on Sunday morning just south of Palm Beach State College. The college is located in south Palm Beach County in southeast Florida. The sheriff's office did not yet have a lot of details on the crash, but did say that deputies and fire rescue personnel were on the scene and that detectives were in route.

NORTH LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in North Las Vegas say a 31-year-old man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into an industrial park building. Officers responded to the crash about 10:40 p.m. Saturday. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
