NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Catholic school official said Monday that a suburban New Orleans school has rescinded its policy forbidding hair extensions. But it remains unclear whether a sixth-grader who left school in tears last week after running afoul of the rule will return to Christ the King school. Video of Faith Fennidy dejectedly walking out of school last week drew accusations that the rule targeted black students. CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police say a man fatally shot his son and daughter, both 10 years old, and then turned the gun on himself in their North Side apartment. Police say they were called to the residence Monday morning after a nanny was unable to enter the apartment. There they found a 45-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California district attorney's investigation of a police officer's fatal shooting of an unarmed man languished for more than a decade before completion, a newspaper reported Monday. MALAKOFF, Texas (AP) — Am East Texas man and woman have been arrested after a 70-year-old woman said they kept her in a kennel, beat and kicked her, withheld food and water and forced her to walk on broken glass. Tyler television station KLTV reports 47-year-old Leonnia Darlene Anderson Castillo of Log Cabin remains in the Henderson County Jail in Athens charged with first-degree felony injury to the elderly. PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Colorado regulators have approved Xcel Energy's plan to shut down two coal-fired generating stations in Pueblo a decade early, part of a plan to bolster the utility's share of power from renewable sources. The Pueblo Chieftain reports the Colorado Public Utilities Commission agreed to the plan Monday. Xcel said in June that one unit at the Comanche Generating Station would be retired in 2022, 11 years early, and the other in 2025, 10 years ahead of schedule.
