BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — A coroner says the bullet that killed a Bloomington man who pointed a handgun at officers entered his thigh and traveled upward, penetrating his aorta, liver and a lung. The Herald-Times reports Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields released the cause and manner of death for 24-year-old Daniel Boyer on Friday following a Wednesday autopsy in Terre Haute. KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A January trial date has been set in the case of an Uber driver charged with killing six people in Michigan after a prosecutor said he won't appeal a decision that keeps a lid on parts of a police interview. Kalamazoo County prosecutor Jeff Getting says it's time to bring the "matter to trial without further delay." The shootings occurred in February 2016. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The cost of replacing Louisiana's voting machines has jumped tens of millions of dollars higher than previously estimated. And the state hasn't identified a way to pay for much of it. The winning bidder for the replacement work, Dominion Voting Systems, projected the installation of about 10,000 new machines will cost between $90 million and $95 million. BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The final management plan is in place for one of three new central Idaho wilderness areas. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service on Thursday signed the Jim McClure-Jerry Peak Wilderness Plan. The plan covers 183 square miles (474 square kilometers) and is described by officials as a middle-ground plan when it comes to restrictions on human visitors and activities. The Idaho Conservation League says it's concerned the plan doesn't do enough to prevent pack goats from passing diseases to bighorn sheep.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — State lawmakers have agreed to an $8.5 million spending plan for the first dollars saved by shrinking Louisiana's prison population through sentencing law changes enacted last year. The state corrections department says Louisiana is spending $12.2 million less this year than it would have spent on prisons because of the overhaul. Mary Fallin's office says four counties in northeastern Oklahoma have been designated disaster areas because of drought, making farmers and ranchers eligible for federal assistance. The dilapidated Eugene home on East 11th Avenue that was the namesake for the movie "National Lampoon's Animal House" was torn down in 1986.
