CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's official statistics agency says the inflation rate has increased to 13.2 percent in May, ahead of a possible new round of price hikes as part of austerity measures designed to overhaul the country's economy. DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Some Dubuque parents are concerned about the end of an elementary school's charter status, despite officials saying many of the school's practices will remain in place. JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — A New York man has been sentenced to five years in prison in a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman sitting at a New Jersey bus stop. PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia woman has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in the fatal shooting of her mother. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports 33-year-old Amanda Kay Proffitt of Brushfork was sentenced Friday on a second-degree murder charge in Mercer County Circuit Court. According to court records, Connie Proffitt was shot in April 2017 after an argument with Amanda Proffitt, who had told her mother that her boyfriend was going to move in with them. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana lawmakers have agreed to allow state prisoners to do construction work at the state Capitol complex and the corrections department's headquarters. Gov. John Bel Edwards signed the measure by Rep. Kenny Havard, a St. Francisville Republican, into law. Much of the work already is being done. Havard said he was clarifying it's legal. JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says it has destroyed a tunnel dug by Hamas leading from Gaza into the Mediterranean Sea. Military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said Sunday that the tunnel would have been used to sneak divers out of Gaza and attack Israeli targets. He says last week aircraft struck the tunnel, which stretched dozens of meters (yards) into the sea.
