State Police say they arrested 27-year-old Brejon Nabors Thursday morning as he tried to escape from the roof of a residence in New Bedford, a fishing port near the Rhode Island state line. WASHINGTON — The Senate confirmed Gina Haspel on Thursday to be the first woman to lead the CIA, elevating a career clandestine officer to its directorship despite bipartisan misgivings about her role in the agency’s brutal detention and interrogation programs in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. A church with a minuscule stake in Pennsylvania's largest natural gas driller has won shareholder approval of a resolution to force the company to produce a report on its effort to scale back methane emissions. Range Resource's board opposed the measure, saying the Fort Worth, Texas-based company already provides "considerable disclosure" to stockholders and federal and state environmental regulators. PGA Tour and Octagon officials are planning to hold a new tour event in the Bay Area in September 2019, with Warriors guard Stephen Curry as tournament host, a source told The Chronicle on Thursday. Octagon, the sports management company, will run the tournament. The venue has not yet been determined, as Octagon officials seek corporate partners and a host course. TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Tucson man accused of killing his mother-in-law and beating and choking his estranged wife after allegedly kidnapping both women has died at a Pima County jail. County Sheriff's officials say 43-year-old Norman Schrank was found unresponsive in his cell early Wednesday and pronounced dead. Homicide detectives determined it was a suicide. HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupted anew early Thursday with little sound and only modest fury, spewing a steely gray plume of ash about 30,000 feet (9,100 meters) into the sky that began raining down on a nearby town. SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle police say a man was severely injured in a hatchet attack downtown. The Seattle Police Department says witnesses told police a blue sedan pulled up to an intersection by at McDonald's at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and that two men in the car started arguing with a crowd. Police say one of the suspects was armed with a hatchet and a baseball bat and at some point during the argument, the suspect struck the man with the hatchet.
