WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is offering support for his chief of staff, telling reporters that John Kelly is "doing a fantastic job." Trump walked with his Kelly at Joint Base Andrews and cited "false reporting" about Kelly's potential departure from the White House. Kelly told reporters everything is going "phenomenally well." Buffett told CNBC about the latest Apple stock purchases Friday as tens of thousands of shareholders begin to arrive at Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting this weekend. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The U.S Department of Education has approved Virginia's plan for the replacement of the No Child Left Behind Act. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced the plan's approval Thursday for the Every Student Succeeds Act. The act is a 2015 federal law that allows the federal government to financially support national and local education goals. UNADILLA, Neb. (AP) — A man who's spent time in prison for neglecting his livestock has been charged in a new case after pig and goat carcasses were found on his southeast Nebraska property. The Lincoln Journal-Star reports that 67-year-old John Maahs is facing 10 felony animal cruelty and neglect charges after dead animals were found on his Otoe County farm. LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The wife of former Nebraska Gov. Charley Thone has died less than two months after his death. Kerry Fangman with Roper & Sons said Friday that Ruth Thone died Thursday in Lincoln at the age of 86. Charley Thone, who also served in Congress, died March 7. She was a supporter of humanitarian causes, including civil rights and care for the needy. BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — A Montana U.S. Senate candidate's trial for hunting and fishing license violations has been delayed until after the primary election. An attorney for Republican Troy Downing says it would have been a hardship for Downing to prepare for the May 23 trial while campaigning for the June 5 primary. SEATTLE (AP) — The Alaska Air Group has begun construction on a new office building near the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The Seattle Times reports the parent company of Alaska Airlines broke ground Thursday on the nearly 7-acre site across the street from its existing corporate headquarters in the city of SeaTac. The company expects the 128,000-square-foot (11,900-square-meter) building to have room for about 600 employees and to be completed in early 2020.
