Oklahoma governor to decide on juvenile life sentencing bill

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin will soon decide on a bill that would only allow judges to sentence juveniles convicted of murder to life in prison without parole. The Oklahoman reports that lawmakers introduced the measure because of U.S. Supreme Court decisions that practically eliminated mandatory life without parole sentences for offenders who are accused of killing when they were 17 or younger. The measure would require a judge to consider the immaturity and failure... Читать дальше...

Ratings: ‘Superstore,’ ‘AP Bio’ Rise on Night of NBC Season Finales – But ‘Champions’ Is Still No Winner

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

NBC had a nice Thursday night, with a slight increase in Nielsen ratings and total viewers for their primetime lineup filled with sitcom finales. Well, a rise for some — but not all. Though the season closers for “Superstore” and the Glenn Howerton-led “A.P. Bio” jumped a bit over their previous week’s numbers, Mindy Kaling’s “Champions” was steady with its last episode — meaning it wasn’t great. This brought the Peacock up to third for the evening in both the key group of adults 18-49 and total eyeballs.

‘Tully’ Film Review: Charlize Theron Is a Real Mother in Bleakly Hilarious Parenthood Tale

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Good parents do the best they can, and we forgive them when they make mistakes. Similarly, the parenting comedy “Tully” makes a narrative misstep late in the game — and it’s a spoiler, so I’ll talk around it — but the film is otherwise so intelligent, so uncompromising and so bleakly hilarious in a genuine way that it’s easy to overlook the errors and focus on the good times. For their third collaboration (after “Juno” and “Young Adult”), screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman are determined... Читать дальше...

Ohio auditor wants e-school's computers kept for evidence

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The state auditor wants computer equipment from Ohio's largest online charter school to be saved as possible evidence rather than sold as the school is dismantled amid a fight over state funding. The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow has challenged how the state tallied students' participation to determine that ECOT should repay tens of millions of dollars, which led to it closing earlier this year. A judge who previously approved the sale of ECOT equipment has scheduled a hearing... Читать дальше...

Trump says Giuliani needs to 'get facts straight' on Stormy

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump insisted Friday that "we're not changing any stories" about the 2016 hush payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels, even as he further muddied the explanation for the settlement by suggesting the new face of his legal team needs to "get his facts straight." Trump said that Rudy Giuliani, who upended the previous White House defense this week by saying the president knew about his personal lawyer Michael Cohen's payment to Daniels, was "a great guy but he just...
