Two former supervisors involved in the cleanup of radioactive contaminants at the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard have pleaded guilty to falsifying soil samples in the widening environmental scandal that has engulfed San Francisco’s largest redevelopment project. The guilty pleas were made in 2017 as part of a criminal federal investigation that had been under seal until Wednesday, when one of the supervisors was sentenced to eight months in prison. ROWLEY, Mass. (AP) — An 81-year-old man who was hit by a falling tree in Massachusetts has died of his injuries. Investigators say the Rowley man was helping his neighbor cut down a tree on the neighbor's property Thursday when the tree fell on him. Police say he was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Rowley Police Department and State Police detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney's Office are investigating. The man's name has not been released.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — The 77-year-old suspect in the oldest cold-case investigation in Orange County history has died. The Orange County Register reports Thursday that the daughter of the victim was informed last weekend that Charles Faith Jr. had died. Faith was arrested in 2007 and charged with killing Christina Wariner, who was sexually assaulted, bludgeoned and strangled in 1964 in the Santa Ana motel she managed.
