NEW YORK (AP) — A new analysis concludes that bones found in 1940 on a remote Pacific island were quite likely to be remains from famed aviator Amelia Earhart. The new report is the latest chapter in a back-and-forth that has played out about the remains, which are now lost. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A gun fell out of a kindergartner's backpack in a Florida charter school classroom, but it didn't fire and it is unclear how it got there. Somerset Academy Lakes Elementary spokeswoman Lynn Norman-Teck said the child's teacher immediately picked up the gun after it fell Thursday morning and no students were endangered. CORNING, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York college student charged with helping her father kill her mother has agreed to testify against him as a part of a plea deal. Karrie Neurauter says she drove her father to her mother's home in Corning last year and distracted a younger sibling while he strangled the woman. She then helped him make the scene look like a suicide and lied to police. Neurauter pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in exchange for a recommended sentence of 15 years to life. VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a northwestern Indiana man stole two pugs from a home and beat them to death in a rural area. Twenty-three-year-old Anthony Priestas of Hammond was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of killing a domestic animal. He remained at the Porter County Jail on Thursday.
