BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungary's president has announced that parliamentary elections will be held on April 8. President Janos Ader said Thursday in a statement that the vote will be held on the anniversary of the 1990 elections, the first after the end of communism. MOSCOW (AP) — A court in Siberia has opened hearings in the trial of a former policeman who is charged with the murder of 60 people. Mikhail Popkov, from the eastern Siberian city of Angarsk, was first arrested in 2012 and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 22 women. While in custody, Popkov confessed to 20 more. Local police have for years been investigating murders in the Irkutsk region where dozens of women were raped and killed in secluded spots. BERLIN (AP) — A prominent member of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's party was slightly injured in a traffic accident in the early hours of Thursday morning as she headed back to Berlin for talks about the formation of a new government. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A group of sanitation workers whose strike 50 years ago brought civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. to Memphis, Tennessee, are being honored. PARIS (AP) — The Latest on the theft of jewelry at the Ritz Hotel in Paris (all times local): 10:25 a.m. Police say some of the jewels stolen from the Ritz Hotel in Paris have been found but that two thieves are still on the run. A police official said Thursday that one perpetrator dropped a bag with jewels and hatchets when his motorcycle hit a pedestrian during his escape. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not able to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation, said the pedestrian was slightly injured.
