Yale professor to receive $1M for warrior-scholar project

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A Yale astronomy and physics professor has been awarded a $1 million prize to expand her work on a project that helps military veterans prepare for college. Marla Geha will receive the money over the next five years from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for her work on the science portion of Yale's Warrior-Scholar Project. Solar energy to help provide power to business park

BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) — The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority and Diversified Communications are ready to dedicate a project that'll produce 1.5 megawatts of solar energy. Officials say the system is designed to provide 13.3 percent of the electricity at Brunswick Landing business park from on-site renewable energy, and eliminate more than 2 million pounds of carbon dioxide each year in the process. Report: Privatized Medicaid saving Iowa less than predicted

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A new report says Iowa's controversial shift to privately managed Medicaid will save the state 80 percent less money this year than originally predicted. The Des Moines Register reported Saturday that a quarterly report prepared by Iowa Department of Human Services staff members says the state now stands to save $47.1 million this fiscal year by having private companies manage the $4 billion program. Storm's after-effects halt South Carolina's busiest airport

South Carolina's busiest airport remained at a standstill days after a snowstorm blew into the state, vexing passengers trying to leave a coastal area unaccustomed to snow. Police patrol cars involved in 2 SF collisions

A pair of San Francisco police patrol cars were involved in crashes Saturday morning, just two blocks apart. Two officers suffered minor injuries, while a third person also was hurt. Officials plan for growth of electric cars on Colorado roads

Jerry Van Dyke, comedian and brother of Dick Van Dyke, has reportedly died. He was 86. According to TMZ, Van Dyke’s wife Shirley said the comedian died Friday afternoon at their Arkansas Ranch. ENID, Okla. (AP) — Norman Lamb, a former Oklahoma state senator and the father of Republican Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb, has died. An owner at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home confirmed Saturday that Norman Lamb died late Friday in Enid at age 82. The owner did not know the cause of death. The Oklahoman reports that the elder Lamb was elected senator in 1971 and served nearly 20 years, acting as floor minority leader for three years. Nevada doctors voice concerns over opioid law implementation

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's new opioid prescription law is only days old but doctors already are worried about how it might be implemented. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports physicians, lawyers and others expressed concerns this week to the state medical and dental boards over draft disciplinary rules for doctors who write improper prescriptions for pain medications.
