Nonprofit group gets more than $5M to convert old paper mill
MILLINOCKET, Maine (AP) — A northern Maine nonprofit group is receiving more than $5 million from the federal Economic Development Administration to help turn a former paper mill into an industrial park.
Our Katahdin will use the money to build infrastructure such as roads and power on the 1,400-acre former site of Great Northern Paper Mill in Millinocket.
Independent Sen. Angus King and Republican Sen. Susan Collins say the revitalization of the former paper mill is important for attracting "new, innovative companies" to a rural, northern part of the state.
