Nonprofit gets OK to transform school into community center
BRIDGEWATER, Vt. (AP) — A local nonprofit is moving forward with plans to transform the former Bridgewater Village School into a community center.
Valley News reports the Bridgewater Selectboard voted last week to approve a five-year lease for the Bridgewater Area Community Foundation. The nonprofit has agreed to pay a dollar each year.
A local benefactor recently donated $50,000 toward renovations. Early plans for the school include an after-school center, yoga studio and senior center space.
Selectwoman Lynne Bertram says she's "very optimistic" about the facility and "totally" supports it.
The nonprofit plans to apply for grants to help with renovations.
The former Bridgewater Village School building was built in 1914.
