A’s fall to Mariners 2-0 in 12 innings in series finale
So much tends to make sense in a really economical ballgame. The Mariners and A’s needed just two hours to complete nine innings at the Coliseum on Wednesday, fans enjoying the old-school sight of a masterful pitchers’ duel without a single run on the scoreboard.
In the end, the A’s 2-0 loss in extra innings made no sense at all.
It was authored by Seattle’s Dee Gordon, belting only his 13th homer over an eight-year career. It was a two-run shot off reliever Yusmeiro Petit in the 12th, ending the A’s winning streak at four games and giving Seattle a much-needed win. The Mariners didn’t really show much in the three-game series, but they trail Oakland by only 2½ games in the wild-card race.
