Lawsuit accuses North Carolina school system of neglect
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — A lawsuit filed against a North Carolina school system and its board of education says an elementary school in need of repairs was discriminated against because of race.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports the lawsuit filed against the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and the board of education centers on Ashley Elementary School. The Action4Ashley Coalition says the systems took no action to address mold and indoor air quality at the school, which is made up of predominantly black and Latino students.
The complaint with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights calls on the school system to order the district to build a new school.
