Judge allows suit over immigration status to move forward
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal judge in San Francisco has refused to throw out a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's decision to stop extending legal status to immigrants from four countries.
Judge Edward Chen ruled on Monday that courts have the authority to review the lawsuit over temporary protected status.
The lawsuit filed in March seeks to reinstate the status for people from El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua and Sudan. Temporary protected status is granted to countries ravaged by natural disasters or war, and lets citizens of those countries remain in the U.S. until the situation improves back home.
