Cal’s Vaughn wins national award
Cal sophomore Andrew Vaughn was named the National Player of the Year by Perfect Game/Rawlings on Wednesday.
Vaughn, a Santa Rosa native and Mario Carillo High alum, is the first person from Cal to earn a national baseball player of the year award.
Vaughn is also one of the four finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which is considered the amateur sport’s highest honor and will be announced June 28 in a ceremony in Los Angeles. The other finalists are Kody Clemens (Texas), Casey Mize (Auburn) and Brady Singer (Florida).
Playing in all 54 games for the Bears this season, Vaughn hit .
