Brush fire burning in San Rafael hills near Highway 101
A brush fire was burning Saturday afternoon in the hills of San Rafael, officials said.
The fire was first reported at 3:25 p.m., said Bret McTigue, battalion chief of the Marin County Fire Department, which was assisting with the incident. It was burning in Boyd Memorial Park, near Highway 101.
Evacuation orders hadn’t been issued, but residents in the area were encouraged to shelter in place, McTigue said. By 5 p.m., the fire had grown to 15 acres and was 15 percent contained.
The San Rafael Fire Department said on Twitter firefighters were making “solid progress” in putting out the blaze. Sixty were deployed to help put out the blaze.
