Chris Bassitt sharp in return as A’s lose 2-0 to Royals
A few teammates greeted Chris Bassitt in the A’s clubhouse Saturday morning smiling as though they hadn’t seen the lanky right-hander in a long time.
Bassitt had been up with the A’s briefly in April, and again for a day in May. But neither time did he get a chance to pitch in a major-league game for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May 2016.
More than two years removed from his last A’s outing, Bassitt returned in a spot-starter role on Saturday and delivered seven strong innings in a 2-0 loss to the Royals at the Coliseum.
Bassitt allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out six.
