Massive fire at Sonoma lumber company forces evacuations half-mile away
A massive fire Tuesday afternoon at Sonoma Pacific Co., a commercial lumber and pallet company, has forced evacuations near the site of the blaze, authorities said.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert at 1:06 p.m. noting that people within a half-mile of the fire at 1180 Fremont Dr. in Sonoma should evacuate. The alert also asked the public to avoid nearby roadways to allow better access for responders.
“Everyone within a half mile radius of 1180 Fremont Drive must evacuate now,” the sheriff’s office said.
Jeremy Foutch, a contractor for the company, confirmed the fire.
“I don’t have any idea how severe it is yet,” he said.
