Man found dead after Tesla crashes into Castro Valley pond
A 34-year-old man died over the weekend after his Tesla plunged into a pond in Castro Valley, authorities said.
The incident occurred either Saturday or Sunday at Crow Canyon Road when a man driving a Tesla Model S veered off the roadway, broke through a fence and drove into a pond, said Daniel Jacowitz, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities discovered the vehicle about 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Jacowitz added.
Keith Leung, of Danville, was identified as the driver and pronounced dead on the scene, said Sgt. Ray Kelly, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
“We have never dealt with a submerged electric car like that before,” Kelly said.
