Giants set dubious strikeout mark in four-game Phillies sweep
PHILADELPHIA — A Giants team that lost 98 games last season had a nice three-week run, and for three fun-filled days in Atlanta, they got a reminder of what it feels like to be a winning team.
Then Philadelphia happened, a four-game disaster filled with enough hitters striking out to set a franchise record, starters getting shelled like walnuts and endless renditions of that painfully sugary Phillies victory song, “High Hopes.”
The Giants’ first four-game losing sweep in Philly since 1999 squared their record at 19-19, although saying they looked like a .500 team at Citizens Bank Park would be a stretch.
