They're known as "diploma mills."

Each year, more than 350 websites posing as legitimate online universities sell 200,000 degrees around the US and other countries. Though they may seem real, the sites offer fake diplomas, accredited by bogus institutions, for several hundred to several thousand dollars.

As the academic year approaches, these online scams are poised to reap millions from unsuspecting customers who seriously believe they are enrolling as students. Читать дальше...

Here's what North Korea hopes to achieve by testing nuclear weapons

BusinessInsider.com

REUTERS/KCNA

North Korea’s sixth nuclear test, following soon after a series of missile provocations, tells us a great deal.

Most obviously, North Korea does not feel at all constrained by US President Donald Trump’s rhetoric, and nor has it been coerced by UN sanctions. It also illustrates the acute regional tension caused by the acceleration of the isolated country’s weapons acquisition program.

While we wait for technical detail that will reveal the exact magnitude of the blast... Читать дальше...

Here's which parts of China's economy would get slammed if Trump put his Twitter threats into action

BusinessInsider.com

Reuters/Carlos Barria

President Donald Trump tweeted on Sunday that the US is considering cutting off trade with any country that maintains economic ties with North Korea.

The remark was largely interpreted as a semi-veiled threat against North Korea's main trading partner, China.

Several experts argued it was not a credible threat given that the policy would have severe negative effects on the US economy.

In light of the simmering tensions, however, it's worth looking... Читать дальше...

Hillary Clinton complained about Bernie Sanders by relating him to 'There's Something About Mary,' a film she did not understand

BusinessInsider.com

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images

A leaked passage from Hillary Clinton's forthcoming memoir includes a colorful complaint about debating Bernie Sanders, which is great because what 2017 needs is more relitigation of the 2016 presidential primaries.

The complaint draws on an analogy to a scene from the 1998 film "There's Something About Mary," a scene that Clinton and her advisers seem to have misunderstood.

She recounts the film:

"A deranged hitchhiker says he's come up with a brilliant plan. Читать дальше...

13 annoying words and phrases that'll kill your chances of getting hired

BusinessInsider.com

Monica Schipper/Getty Images

Usually, you can tell when you've absolutely bombed an interview.

If, during the course of your conversation, you reveal that you're totally unqualified, let slip a particularly unprofessional anecdote, or manage to offend the recruiter or hiring manager, it's typically not a surprise when you don't get a callback.

But plenty of times, you'll leave an interview feeling great only to hear that they won't be moving forward with you, or worse: You won't hear anything at all. Читать дальше...

Joe Skipper/Getty

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 53rd home run of the season on Monday night, continuing a torrid pace that places him among baseball's great power hitters.

The home run, Stanton's 20th in his last 31 games, came in the fifth inning against A.J. Cole of the Washington Nationals. The slugging right fielder hit a deep drive to right field, putting the Miami Marlins within one run of their opponents.

The home run was impressive by itself, but a closer look at the... Читать дальше...

I tried Nissan's challenger to Tesla Autopilot — and it was a dream to use in traffic

Nissan

Nissan is giving its Leaf a big upgrade in 2018 as the Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3 pose greater competition in the electric-vehicle market.

Aside from an expected longer range, the Leaf will be the first vehicle to feature Nissan's ProPilot Assist. As a level 2 self-driving system, it won't let you kick back and relax with your hands off the wheel. But it can take over on a highway, even handling incessant braking in stop-and-go traffic.
