Alec Baldwin Says Trump ‘SNL’ Impression Likely Won’t Last Into Next Season (Video)

There’s been a long-standing question on whether or not Alec Baldwin will continue his impersonation of President Trump on “Saturday Night Live.” We may finally have an answer.

In an interview with the Press Association (a UK provider of multimedia content), Baldwin said that his Trump impression would probably not continue past this season.

“Not much longer,” he said, adding that the audience’s needs and reactions to his continued performance will probably influence him and “SNL’s” final decision.

“[This season] I’m going to go do it as much as I can… beyond that I don’t quite know — I don’t quite know if people want to continue with that,” he said. “If everything stays the same in this country as it is now, I don’t think people are going to be in the mood to laugh about it come September.”

Baldwin is echoing other things he’s said while promoting his new film “Boss Baby.” According to him, the Trump administration isn’t something to laugh at and as time goes on, it’ll become harder to make fun of it.

“We’ll see if this is actually the first satire-resistant presidency,” he said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Baldwin also took the time to delve into his impersonation and what really makes it work. And no, it isn’t the hair (although that helps).

“There’s a physical hook you want to have in terms of the mouth and the eyes… but the key to it is the writing,” he said. “You could do the most deft, you could do the most spot on impersonation of Trump and it wouldn’t matter if it didn’t have good writing.”

Baldwin has been putting on the iconic wig since before the election, where he often paired up with Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton. In the final episode before voting, it looked as if the two were retiring their duo as they went around New York giving out hugs.

He announced he was returning to the part post-election, but he said it wasn’t going to be “all that often,” explaining that the gig cuts into time with his children.
