Foreign investments in Armenia’s real sector in 2016 dropped to 81.6 billion
According to official data, the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the Armenian economy in 2016 was about 62.6 billion drams against 69.4 billion drams in 2015. The largest flows of aggregate foreign investments to Armenia arrived from Luxembourg, Cyprus and the United Kingdom.
More precisely, total investments from Luxembourg amounted to 48.4 billion drams, while direct foreign investments were worth 10.8 billion drams.
Total investments from Cyprus were worth 44.3 billion drams, while direct investments stood at 34.5 billion drams. The total investments from the United Kingdom amounted to 33.7 billion drams and 32.8 billion drams respectively.
Besides, a significant amount of investment came from the United States and the island of Jersey - 12 billion drams and 10.1 billion drams respectively.
Net financial obligations assumed by residents of Armenia (including investments received by government agencies and the banking sector) in 2016 amounted to $1.215 billion, by $405 million more than in 2015, while FDI fell by $159.6 million to $338 million, portfolio investments decreased by $205.9 million to $56.3 million, and other investments increased by $451.9 million to $820.7 million ($1 - 483.87 drams) . -0-
