Times of Malta

On November 11, the First Hall of the Civil Court gave a partial judgment on two preliminary pleas raised by the state in the case ‘315/17 JRM’. The action filed in this case is according to article 469A of our Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure, which is aptly noted in the margins as ‘Judicial review of administrative action’.  This partial judgment was on a very central point in contesting administrative action, i.e. what constitutes administrative action and the exercise of the court’s judicious discretion in determining the same. The Holy Family Home is not able to “offer optimum quality of life” and so residents are being relocated to “better homes”, the Archdiocese of Malta said. Pope Francis in Athens for first papal visit in two decades

Times of Malta

Pope Francis began a landmark trip to Greece on Saturday with the first visit to Athens by a pontiff in two decades, aiming to improve historically fraught relations with the country's Orthodox Church and highlight the plight of refugees. Flying in after a two-day trip to Cyprus, the pope landed shortly after 0900 GMT in the Greek capital, where security was heightened over expected protests by Orthodox hardliners among whom anti-papal sentiment remains strong. The pope's trip will see him return on Sunday to the island of Lesbos... Читать дальше...

Do not waste Marsa regeneration opportunity on tourism - ADPD

Times of Malta

Turning the old power station site in Marsa into a tourism hotspot would be a wasted opportunity and the area should instead be developed for other purposes, the ADPD believes. In a press conference held on Saturday, the green party argued that the area would be better served if it kept its original focus on the maritime industry. “This zone’s regeneration should not be tied up to tourism,” said ADPD chairperson Carmel Cacopardo. The ADPD’s calls come in reaction to an announcement by the Planning... Читать дальше...

PSG wait for Messi to find Ballon d’Or form with Neymar out

Times of Malta

Paris Saint-Germain have been milking the fact that they have this year’s Ballon d’Or winner in their ranks, but Lionel Messi was crowned the world’s best player for the seventh time in his glittering career entirely because of what he achieved elsewhere. At 34, perhaps Messi was principally rewarded for his enduring brilliance by jurors as he won the prize ahead of much-fancied rivals including Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.   Continue reading this article on Sports Desk, the new sports... Djokovic to make Australian Open decision ‘very soon’

Times of Malta

Novak Djokovic ended his rollercoaster season with a Davis Cup defeat on Friday and then promised to make a decision on his Australian Open participation “very soon”. The world number one, who captured three of the season’s four Grand Slams in 2021 to take him level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20, is still a doubt for January’s Australian Open after organisers insisted only fully-vaccinated players will be allowed into the country. The 34-year-old has refused to say whether or not he has been vaccinated against coronavirus. Читать дальше...

The game is rigged: Bernard Grech on PN's poor poll results

Times of Malta

The Nationalist Party continues to perform poorly in political surveys in part because the game is rigged to favour the incumbent Labour government, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech argued on Saturday. Poll numbers suggest that the PN is on track for a record electoral drubbing, with the most recent survey, released last week by Times of Malta, putting Labour 47,000 votes ahead of the PN. Speaking on Saturday, Grech downplayed the importance of such polls, arguing that they provided a snapshot... Читать дальше...
